Hedgehog Home
Hedgehogs are our only spiny mammal and their numbers are diminishing. In the last year there have been more hedgehog sightings in the Parish and they need encouragement to thrive. Pesticides can be lethal to hedgehogs.
Pledge 1 – Make a hedgehog home
You can help by providing a hedgehog friendly area in the garden with a safe hibernation and nesting area.
Making a hedgehog a home is easy. Here are some ideas:
Pledge 2 – Make a hedgehog Highway
Hedgehogs can travel a mile or more at night in search of food. Why not talk to your neighbours about making a gap in fences, or a tunnel to give them easy access.
Here’s some advice on creating a hedgehog highway:
Pledge 3 – Create a Habitat Pile
Building a logpile is one of the best features for a plethora of wildlife, especially hedgehogs
providing insects all year round. Compost heaps can be nesting sites.
